Gas detection in a server room

Date: 23 February 2023
Two of Geopal's service technicians, Lars Helms and Jan Larsen, have been on a service visit to a Danish technology and consulting company in Zealand to ensure that all safety requirements are met.

Why is there gas detection at a technology and consulting company, you might be thinking?

In large office workplaces, you typically have a larger server room with IT equipment. As they run at full capacity at all times, it gets incredibly hot very quickly! To prevent the equipment from overheating and being damaged, there is a need to keep the temperature at a fixed level, and this is done with the help of refrigerants.

However, refrigerants can be explosive, flammable and/or toxic.

Ammonia is used as a coolant in this server room. Ammonia, also known as NH3, is a colorless and toxic gas with a penetrating and unpleasant smell, and can be fatal to both humans, animals and the environment, which is precisely why there is a need for gas detection!

In order to secure the workplace and the employees, Geopal has previously installed the gas detectors GJ-C together with the gas alarm monitor GJ-03R to detect ammonia and give an alarm in the event of a leak. For the service inspection, all gas detectors were tested and calibrated, and since Jan and Lars were able to submit a spotless service report, they have thus ensured our customer a continued safe workplace!

Do you also have a server room at your workplace? Or how about a parking garage or a battery room? Gas detection is necessary in many places where there may be a risk to personal safety and many do not think about the fact that there may be a risk of dangerous gases or vapors being released in their workplace.

Check out this list of areas that typically need gas detection.
